Here at ABC, we approach early childhood education through Reggio Emilia!
The Reggio Emilia philosophy dates back to 1945. The philosophy was created by “Lorris Malaguzzi, teacher, and parents” with origins in Reggio Emilia, Italy. (NAREA)
The purpose of this approach is to value each child as strong, capable, and resilient. Our teachers serve as mentors and guides in your child’s journey through education.
A favored element of Reggio Emilia is remida! According to Reggio Children “remida is a cultural project that represents a new, optimistic, and proactive way of approaching environmentalism and building change through giving value to reject materials, imperfect products, and otherwise worthless objects, to foster new opportunities for communication and creativity in a perspective of respect for objects, the environment, and human beings.” While you may just see a few materials, these children see a new creation they can build. The children are encouraged to give items a new life in other forms, through their own eyes. Benefits to this approach include, but are not limited to: team work, creativity, and self-expression.
